Will the treatment be painful?
We will take every measure to ensure that your endodontic procedure is not painful. If treatment is needed, we will inject a small amount of anesthesia to gently numb a concentrated area of your mouth. We will continue to monitor your status throughout treatment to make sure you are comfortbale. For most patients, the feeling of numbness usually subsides after 2-3 hours.
Will I need to return to your office for follow-ups after the procedure is finished?
Yes, for most root canal treatments, we recommend that patients return to our office anywhere between 3 months to 1 year after the procedure has been completed. Our office will call you to remind you when you are due for a recall appointment.
Will I have any pain or discomfort after root canal treatment?
The degree of comfort after endodontic treatment can vary from each individual. If you were either experiencing or not experiencing any discomfort prior to treatment, it is normal for you to expeience some degree of discomfort following treatment so do not be alarmed. It is not unusual for inflammation to begin immediately after the procedure, characterized by soreness and/or puffiness. Typically, inflammation increases in the first 24-48 hours, and then diminishes slowly over the next 2-3 days.
